COMFORT & LIFE QUALITY

a

Between innovation & well-being

Have you ever noticed how well you felt when it was sunny outside? Numerous studies have shown that exposure to sunlight has a significant impact on how our body functions. Indeed, our circadian rhythm, driven by a 24-hour biological clock, is regulated in accordance with the amount of natural light we receive. Too small a dose can disrupt and even damage this cycle. The concept of well-being is in itself explained by the fact that cortisol levels, which influence our alertness and our mood, increases the more we are exposed to natural light. Daylight is therefore fundamental to our comfort and well-being.

In the workspace, natural light allows us to be reconnected to nature,

re-establish our circadian rhythm responsible for the quality of our sleep.

We get more rest and are more energetic during the day.

Regulation

In France, certain standards specify clearly the required level of lighting in the workplace. The article R.232-7-2 fixes the minimum lighting values which must be respected within the workplace.

Whilst there is no minimum level of natural lighting requried by law, certain standards – namely LEED and BREEAM – encourage more and more the integration of natural light solutions. The quality of light emitted by the sun is not only vital for our visual comfort, it also gives us an important contact with the outside and enhances our notions of space and time.
